Because libraries need to shoehorn more functionality into existing spaces, I'm always on the lookout for ideas that will allow them to do that. I saw these products at NeoCon that can be applied in libraries to create space with fluid uses. Idea Paint allows any paintable surface to be transformed into a dry marker board that can be erased. The demand for display space in libraries is high, so consider coating the soffit behind a circulation desk with this paint to create a changeable "billboard" where customers can read about upcoming events while they wait to check out their take home materials. This paint also could be used in a children's room and young adult area to create an instant art canvas.
About Face This table/shelving combination by Teknion allows the table tops to be reconfigured to the opposite side of the shelving to create a classroom, for example, away from a heavily trafficked area. The height of the table tops are adjustable to accommodate users of different ages and/or agility.
Cool Stools These counter height stools by Hon are light enough to be removed without much effort and their sled bases give them the stability Librarians' favor for library seating.
The products shown above and those showcased on previous posts conclude my reviews of outstanding furniture and product ideas for libraries from NeoCon. We are always scouting the market for what we can incorporate into designing functional and appealing library interiors, so we will post more promising products from time to time when we see them.
